#406 In a solo podcast episode, Guy reflected on why some people are pulled by a future vision rather than pushed by past problems, drawing on insights from Live In Flow foundation events in Sydney where attendees commonly face overwhelm, anxiety, depression, loneliness, and loss of purpose after life changes. He shared the story of Joshua Mantz, a U.S. soldier who was shot, briefly died, and later discovered how trauma is held in the body and unconsciously shapes thoughts, emotions, and perception. Guy argued that seeking “purpose” can keep people trapped in mind-based rumination, and invites listeners to instead cultivate presence, connection, and faith in something greater as an inner compass from which purpose naturally evolves. He cautioned that constant media exposure dysregulates the nervous system, emphasizes the journey from head to heart, and announces an upcoming introductory webinar with Matt offering frameworks and a short experiential process.

Guy:
What is it that ignites someone to be really pulled by a vision of a future as opposed to pushed by the problems of the past? The biggest journey is from the head to the heart, which is actually the shortest one in distance. What about if we start to lean into this relinquishing of having to find a purpose per se, and start to bring it back about finding a presence within ourselves?
Guy:
Guy here. Welcome to another episode, episode my podcast, a solo one. As if you’re a regular listener. You, uh, would probably know that I’m making a small commitment to get these out every month as well, to be able to share my thoughts, feelings, understandings, and hopefully you’ll benefit from it and inspire you into more of your authentic self, uh, along the journey as you join the journey with me. Or if you do, and if you’re brand new, Hey, how you doing? You never know who the YouTube algorithms are to these channels these days. Anyway, I, I wanted to basically share, by the way, I’ve got no script in front of me. I’ve got no, I’ve got like three or four notes here just to jog my memory if I wanna speak to it and just share with you authentically from the heart.
This is not an AI script or anything like that. It’s just me, an observation and what’s been present in itself for me over the coming. Last week or so is about purpose and being on purpose and, and what that actually means and what it means to me because not only through my own journey over the years, and there, here is a caveat as well. If I find myself repeating stuff in other podcasts, I do apologize. Honestly, you know, you record it, you upload them, and then you kind of move on, right? And, and then I find myself running events and retreats every other weekend or once every three weeks. And there’s a lot of, a lot of things that are being said there as well.
And eventually it just becomes a blur. So I’m like, did I say that in that one? I don’t know. So anyway. Forgive me in advance, but purpose. ’cause we were just at, uh, two events in Sydney the weekend that myself and Matt Omo run for Live and Flow. They were both foundations, events where people come and spend with us for four hours. And it’s normally people that are exploring this. Kind of work, spiritual work, or even we call them reconnected reconnection. Because ultimately that’s what we feel it really is, is about reconnecting to ourselves, which gives us the ability to reconnect to others. If we have a deeper understanding of ourself, ultimately, then that starts to connect us to Mother Earth and nature and the environment and everything that we live in.
And then through those connections we can. Also then create a deeper sense of connection to source and spirit, the universe, cosmos, whatever you want to call it. And, and the journey for me has been constantly wanting to nurture all of those relationships in my life. ’cause connection is a very deep key to it. But what the reason why I’m sharing now is ’cause what we see over time that people will come into our events. Are certain traits, overwhelm is a big one. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, how can this work help you? Right? How can meditation, how can sound, how can breath be supportive in those environments?
What else is that? Depression. Anxiety, people, these are general conditions. Loneliness is a big one as well. And purpose. I have no purpose anymore. Kids have grown up. There might be a divorce, there might be grief, there might be all sorts of reasons why, but we’re feeling lost within ourselves as well. And we sort of start to come to these realizations. Maybe the paradigm or the perception that we’ve been living about how reality works is not serving us anymore. And then we start asking the bigger questions. Is there more? But what I’m really fascinated as well is, is that when we start, uh, getting to that point is what is it that ignites someone to be really pulled by a vision of a future as opposed to push by the problems of the past?
And I see a lot of people come in and, and naturally they’re very tentative at first and wanting to know, but not. It’s the fewer person that actually runs with it. I used to see it within the health industry all the time in the health and fitness industry. They would conceptualize it in the mind, but they would never run with it and take this information. And to me, that represents then as something in the way what, what is laying underneath that that’s preventing us moving forward. And it’s like, well what’s this gotta do with purpose? Good questions, but a story that keeps coming to mind was somebody I interviewed on my podcast back in the early days, like back in 2018 or 2019, and a guy called Joshua Mantz.
And he, what was fascinating was he served in the US forces. He, I think after nine 11, he, he was deployed to Afghanistan, I believe. And, uh, and one afternoon or one evening as a soldier, two of them were sent out to, ’cause he wanted to fight for his country, he wanted to pay back. He’s very patriotic. And they were basically sent out to another village, deployed to check out if it was safe to be there or not. I can’t remember exactly why I’m just pulling this from, I probably should have listened to the podcast again, but the two kids that I get a lot of time these days, but, uh, he was sent out. And they went over to in, in their, in a army, jeep or vehicle or whatever it was to check out this other village, I believe it was in Afghanistan at the time.
And it was getting dark, or it might have even been dark. And when they started to pull up on the, there was a single road coming in, there was a car blocking the road. I believe they got outta the vehicle and started to walk up to the car, or one of them did. I don’t believe. I don’t remember the exact details. But then as he appeared through the wind, as they could start to see in the windscreen of the car, they noticed there was actually a camera. In the backseat, looking out at them, filming them, and the moment they saw that, they realized that they were being filmed for an execution, an assassination. And the moment that happened, then they heard a, uh, a, a rifle shot go off.
And I believe the bullet went through the iota of the fellow. He was with ricocheted out and then hit Josh in one of his main arteries in his leg, if I recall, and was bleeding out and. They, he radioed for help, but the blood loss was massive and he ended up, the person, it’s a huge, long story. I mean, we did a podcast on it, but the, the point of being is he ended up dying for 15 minutes. They, they managed to resuscitate him and bring him back and you know, he came out of the army, went into rehab and started questioning the bigger things in life. But what was really. Interesting about that conversation was not so much the near death experience or so much the, the trauma of the day is that when he started diving into heal his emotional wounds from it, there was so much more that he found than just the events of the day is like how the body becomes the record keeper of our life.
And those things are actually influencing the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we perceive life in any given moment. And what I’m, what I truly believe in after now being in front of 10, like thousands and thousands of people with this work and, and seeing results and actually spending quality time with people. And how we move that is this thing about purpose and how do they intertwine. Listen, let me, let me start to break this down. Where am I going with this?
When we are being influenced by the mind, we, so our trauma is, I believe, the imprints, the, the energetic components that are evoking an emotional component, that are evoking a thought pattern that is then shaping our reality. That’s how I kind of see this. So even though it’s all happening unconsciously, we are then, we are meeting life equal to how we are feeling and the subconscious programs are running underneath the surface. And what that does, it encourages more of this mind, linear based reality, and we keep. Ruminating and going over and over the same problems. But as like Einstein once said, if you know, if you are seeing the problem from the level of mind created it, the same mind that created it, you know, it’s a definition of insanity or something like that, I believe he said.
Right. What I’ve found and what was very interesting was what about if we start to lean into this relinquishing of having to find a purpose per se and start to bring it back about finding a presence within ourselves that helps relinquish. The mind and start to tap into a deeper wisdom within ourselves that has no language, that has no words, that can start to be our guiding campus moving forward. And it’s the thread of everything that’s entwined in every single action we do and the presence that we bring to it. And from that presence, our purpose evolves. Over time. Now, Joshua Mantz, the reason why I read him, he had to get shot by a sniper and almost die to wake up to this fact and his life changed on a different trajectory forever.
In some ways, it feels like many of us people and the people I see in the workshop, almost subliminally wait until they get shot because the pain is so great and they can’t see past their own creation of the stories in their mind. And yes, we all have a past. Yes. Many of us have had many, many challenges through our lives, and honestly, I’ve, I’ve seen a lot and I’ve witnessed a lot, and I’ve experienced different stories from all walks of life. And some things I, it blows my mind. Okay? But the reality is all we have is now from this moment forward. And, and when you feel into your heart, you know that. As even looking at a dear friend of mine, uh, Marcus Pierce he, uh, takes people to a blue zone in Sardinia every year. I and Blue Zones are where people live the most disease free and, a long lifespan. I’m just trying to find the right words here to name it shortly. But there’s a great documentary as well. I think it was on Netflix, but uh, you know, I had to live into a hundred years old and they. They looked at the Sardinians, the Koreans, the, the people in Costa Rica, you know, the Japan, the blue zones where they’re all around.
But this one in I Korea as well. One of the, the biggest things to come out of it was faith-based faith. And for me. I feel that muscle has been developed and through embodied experiences that there is a collective, that there is a unifying field, that there is something far greater than this that binds the universe together, that our small minds could ever conceptualize in. But throughout. Perpetuated life and through the, the stresses and the demands of daily life we’ve been separated to a degree from that. You know what I mean? Even, even the fact that most people are now wearing shoes beneath their feet, everywhere we go, and we we’re not even energetically connected anymore.
The very line, we’re not connected to the land. It’s so easy to go in and just buy food off the shelf. There’s no real sense of connection to source to these very things that we, we speak about, and we lose sight of that, and we get caught up in the mind and we perpetuate it. So bringing this back into then alignment of being on purpose is that what I’ve seen in my own life is that I’ve certainly lost my way many, many times as well. But at the same time as I started to bring an awareness and presence to myself and actually made purpose about developing faith, my purpose is to develop, you could say awakening, but awakening to what? Where are we awakening to we even impose our mind and the stories to what that even looks like for us.
But to me the, the, the journey of awakening is a journey. It’s not a destination per se, that it just continues to unfold and there’s deeper, deeper depths of levels of connection and understanding. I know this for a fact. For me, this is my belief system. ’cause I feel it in my own body through over the years. I feel my body at a cellular level, at a DNA level. It’s even hard to put into words change. I felt how my. My res, my cells receive information differently. The way it connects to energy is so much clearer than it was. I didn’t even know it existed 20 years ago per se, if that makes sense. So there’s an definitely an adaptation that’s going on along that.
And what happens is with faith and with awakening and with connection to divine or source, whatever words you want to use through that. It helps you relinquish the mind, and that then becomes the guidance of our choices and actions because ultimately it’s shifting our perceptions because we’re, we are actually embodying it from an internal and we start emanating it out. It sounds crazy if you experienced this before. I’m just trying to find the right way of putting it, but then that becomes your compass. So what I invite you to do that all of you, that if you’re still listening to this right now, is like, how can I make today my purpose about connection to self, to deepen my awareness to self, to deepen my faith in something greater?
That is supporting me. But then what happens here is that we have to relinquish control, and if we have to relinquish control, then that puts us into unknown territory and obviously unknown to the body. Conditional is. Scary and all of a sudden we start to see it as a threat, not an opportunity. And if you’re tapped into mainstream media and you’re tapped into the narratives that are going out there all the time, currently, it’s jarring for the nervous system. I’ve never, like, I, I’ve been, you know, I’m over half a century old now, and I, I remember life before Facebook, before social media, even before internet, it used to turn on the daytime news. The news used to be something, I think it was only like 6:00 PM at night when I go home from school and my parents have it on in the background kind of thing.
Now you can access it anywhere, anytime, and it’s just constantly jarring the nervous system, and it’s constantly then continuing to perpetuate a certain state of being within ourselves. And as long as we’re in that state of being, we are never really gonna be able to step outside of that and come back to what matters. Okay, the biggest journey is from the head to the heart, which is actually the shortest one in distance. I’m sure I’ve said that before somewhere. I tend to use it. Look, I mean, look at my t-shirt. I just realized I still got this on. I went to the gym earlier, but it’s pronoia and it was, it say the universe is conspiring for my greatest good.
Huh, well, that’s my belief system. I like Certainness. And, you know, here’s somebody that’s came from nothing in Wills that ended up, uh, following my heart and growing a a one 18 nutrition, a supplement company here in Australia. And, and that was done with Integrity and because it came from the right place I felt like I was doing a contribution that was gonna be helping people. All of us move forward. Okay, there’s an energy exchange. People buy the supplement. But at the same time was putting a quality product into people’s hands. Like it was all developed. It came off, spawned off the idea of when I was working with people with cancer and things like that. I didn’t know what I was doing.
I did not in of growing a business that is anyway, and the company, I was very passionate about health and food and all the rest of it. It’s a different story, but for that to move for me it was because of, I had faith in something that was. Much larger than myself, and it gave me the courage to make the decisions to move forward. But if we don’t practice that muscle. It doesn’t happen, not from what I’ve seen anyway, and then from there to move that, to sell that, to be doing what I do now. You know, I have a beautiful wife, beautiful children. I very proud of my achievements so far in life. I’ve impacted a lot of people and supported them.
In caveat to that, the people that wanna help themselves, people are ready to say yes. I’m ready to help myself, and it’s like, great, well then I’m ready to help you. And they step into our world and we do a very good job of holding space and facilitating and helping people reconnect back to themselves just like I was that person once as well. And I’m very proud of all that. But none of this has happened by accident. Yeah, none of it, yes. Random synchronicities and different things I could never have imagined have come into my life and had And have there been challenges? Absolutely. Or if I’m honest with you, this last especially three months has been really challenging.
Like really challenging, and I’m finding. The t-shirt that I used to wear, no pressure, no diamond or the pressure of the energetic shifts that wanting to happen within myself and my body and the wounds that are healed have been continuing to heal from that. I’ve been you know, I wouldn’t have been able to have got through it five years ago, but I, I do believe at the same time. There’s a larger aspect of ourselves that supports us, that that is us. And knows exactly how much you can deal with, what you can deal with, and when it’s ready for it, when you are ready for it, not when our mind is ready for it, when the heart and soul is ready for it. There’s a big difference there, and we deal with it.
And that’s and that’s through that pressure. It’s. It creates an inertia and allows us to grow and move forward. So that’s how I, that’s how my belief system is working now. Okay, so don’t get me wrong, it’s not all roses, uh, roses and daisies or whatever it is from here, just ’cause you see me doing a podcast or out there in the events and retreats. I get challenges as just as much as anyone let anyone else and have had them and continue to have them. But ultimately through the tools that we teach and what we do, I know that’s me applying it. I never been wanting, that’s why I, it kind of has taken me such a long time to do solo podcasts. ’cause I’ve always wanted to be someone that is inspire somebody else from their actions and from the doing of things.
Not so much hear from speaking. It’s not my forte per se, in some ways. But ultimately that’s how I become a conscious leader. It’s from, it’s from doing this stuff and living it and breathing it and being passionate about it and wanting to pass it on to others. So my, my challenge to you is, if you’re still listening to this now and all this resonates. Make that your purpose coming into the sense of faith, a sense of connection, a sense of trust, and becoming more present, more presence. And from that start to see what unfolds. Diffuse, the pushing, the chasing, the reaching externally for something to them. One day I’m gonna be happy because I’ve achieved that.
It’s a trap. I’m telling you. We’ve had some very wealthy people come to our retreats and they ain’t happy. And the flip side too, like seriously, like if that’s your, if that’s your drive, if you think an external circumstance is gonna take away what’s going on inside, forget about it. Honestly, you know, but I don’t think you’d be listening to this podcast if that was the case. Yeah, so with that, if you’re in YouTube or whatever, let me know in the comments. Uh, if you’ve got something out of this, I appreciate it. And also I want to mention that oh, I should have got my dates clear. Tell I’m doing this off the cuff, but for the first time, we’re running a webinar. Uh, myself and Matt, um, we are gonna set it up, so I think it’s gonna be, and Australians can join us, and American Time.
I think it works out a bit better too. It is gonna be about a week after this podcast goes live, something like that. So if you’re listening to this later down the line, click the link. You never know. There might be a future webinar that we hold anyway, and the, what we’ve decided to do, uh, the reason why we’re doing the webinar. Is we just want to create a space, probably be about 60 minutes, 75 minute webinar because we obviously are out there in front of people a lot in person. And then there’s a lot of people online that. One experience I work but can’t reach this. So what we thought we would do is just start with, uh, an introductory foundation’s webinar about the frameworks and how we sort of perceive this work.
And from that framework, we’ll probably do a short process and experience as well. And that would kind of give you a taste of the work that we do. And then from the webinar, if you wanna continue to work with us and stuff like that, you can take the next steps. But this webinar in itself as well, uh, will be a framework. And and we share it at our events while one day events under retreats. But we find it, it helps people that alone. So if that interests you and you wanna come and join us, you can. You’ll be able to ask me questions just like this. I’m just making myself open. Not a problem. Um, yeah, come and join us and, uh, we’ll come and connect.
But anyway, much stuff from me. I hope you got something out of this. Apologies if I did waffle or lose my trail of soul from time to time, but I’d much rather sit here and just speak as, as sincere as I can from here, as opposed to just something, uh, scripted out. Anyway, much love and I’ll catch you soon.
