#466 What if the very thing you’re waiting for in your healing journey is what’s actually holding you back?
👉 Work with me: https://www.guylawrence.com.au/booking/

After years of holding space for thousands of people through energy healing, retreats and deep inner work, there are certain things I’ve come to understand about healing that I wish more people knew. One of the biggest is that healing isn’t a destination. It’s not something we do once, tick off the list and move on from. And sometimes, the changes we’re looking for aren’t happening in the way we expect them to.

In this solo episode, I share ten lessons I’ve learned through my own journey and from witnessing the experiences of so many others. We explore why old patterns can keep resurfacing, how our expectations and judgments can get in the way, and why surrender, love and gratitude play such an important role in the healing process. I also unpack something I feel strongly about: we can’t simply hand our healing over to someone else and expect everything to change. The real transformation comes from how we choose to show up for ourselves, day after day. Because sometimes, what feels like nothing is changing might actually be part of a much deeper process unfolding within us. And perhaps the invitation isn’t to push harder or look for more proof, but to become more present, patient and open to what’s possible.

Guy:
Over the past eight years now, eight years, my God, I’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of people through our, obviously our r- in-person retreats, workshops, events, many, many energy healing sessions, hundreds, in fact, if not thousands, that come from that, supporting people on their journeys of healing and spiritual transformation. And I’ve witnessed some of the most extraordinary things along the way. You’ve heard me saying this on the podcast many times, the things that, quite frankly, have challenged my own beliefs along the way, and I wonder, wow, is this really possible? But here’s what I’ve also noticed, because so many people come into this work with beliefs and expectations about how healing should actually play out.

And from what I can see, that’s what’s actually getting in the way. So today, I want to share 10 of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through doing this work. Some of them might surprise you. Well, I know they will. Some of them might challenge you on what you believe. That’s okay, too. But my hope is that they’ll completely change the way you approach your own healing and spiritual journey wherever you are right now. Let’s do this.

All right, so if you’re watching this, I can only assume that you’re on the spiritual path, the, the healing path. There might be elements that we’re wanting to improve and grow from on our journey called life, right? And from when people are diving into energetic work and energy healing and spiritual practices and spiritual work, they all kind of, you know, there’s so many different elements and modalities out there. I want to cut through with these 10 things that are truly, I feel, will help you, uh, for you to contemplate on and hopefully start to bring them into your everyday life, uh, through that, because this really is an all-inclusive effort from, uh, not only me, s- spirit, and yourself, yeah? So number one, uh, big one, it’s healing is not a destination.

Uh, uh, I really have to emphasize that. And especially if you’ve got some kind of chronic disease or your, your, your health is struggling, it’s like, “Oh, I just wanna get rid of this. I just wanna sort this out so I can get to point B.” Well, I’m sorry to say, the body is healing 24/7. It’s actually doing everything it can in every given moment to support you the best it can. So what we need to be– start to consider our mind is, is what does my body need in this moment here and now? And actually relinquish the push to the destination. And if we start thinking in those terms, then we can really start to radically shift our relationship with our body and what actually health is, and holistic health, and everything that’s coming from it.

And I would really encourage you to look at the words you’re using, how you’re describing what– where you’re at, and where you’re going with this as well. Because if you’re trying to escape from what- whatever’s presenting itself for you, so it can just be done, then, uh, w- I feel we’re always gonna be behind the eight ball with that. So remember, healing is not a destination. Healing is a 24 hours a day protocol. How we sleep, how we drink, how, how we think, how we feel, how we interact with the world, all these things is what we’re slowly starting to unpack with that. So with that being mind, number two then is, kind of falls into this, it’s not what happens to you, it’s how we respond to it is a big one as well.

How we show up for ourselves any given moment. One phrase I’ve found myself saying quite often is that, uh, judgment is the handbrake to the divine. So when we’re in our minds, when we’re in judgment, when we c- catch ourselves beating ourselves up, or we’re in fear and we’re resistance, and we’re turning over and churning, we’re in our mind. There’s like th- that mental stimulation, there’s something that is being met with inside of us that is supporting us or keeping us stuck in that. So when it happened or how it happened and what’s happened, r- ultimately, the healing begins in how we then meet that in this moment here and now, even though the event might have taken place many, many years ago, or it might be happening.

So it’s the meaning that we’re starting to shift the association of that, and it can be very challenging when there’s an energetic charge, when there’s something underneath all that that keeps perpetuating the thoughts, the feelings, the perceptions in that given moment, and that’s where I feel a lot of this work and actually really start to support us. But remember, it’s how we respond in each and given, any given moment. I just keep looking over here because I got some, uh, notes as well. Because we can’t always control what happens in life. That’s an illusion, right? But we can certainly start to become aware of how responding to the things that are showing up in our life.

It’s a big one because otherwise it’s gonna– another one that’s gonna capitulate back into this, this non-present space is what we’re trying to get, uh, get ourselves back into in the present moment. So number three then, your mind will do everything it can to keep you in the familiar. And when you’re leaning into especially the, this, this kind of modality of healing and looking at the energetic components, quite often we’re so descent– desensitized and disconnected from ourselves. We’re not at– We don’t have the sensory capacity to tune into any of the changes or the subtleties that are going on, and it’s then very easy to fall back into the old patterns and the old ways. Even when we run events and retreats, it, it’s amazing you start to… You, you watch the human behavior. People start sitting in the same seats.

They enjoy putting their yoga mats in certain places. They start gravitating and sitting with a certain kind of people at the, the dinner table, and then you s-start to see the patterns getting repeated already. So even though we’re creating a space of where we want them to be comfortable in the unknown and to really lean into our hearts and expanse and open up, there’s still the human behavior is trying to, uh, navigate some form of comfort and control within that to make the unknown known. And when it’s coming into this, we have to surrender into all of that. So start to look at what it is you’re, uh, ultimately trying to control in every situation that, that’s keeping you then in the familiar. And we’re happy to sit in pain if it’s familiar, as opposed to go beyond that and do something that could reward us much so emotionally, spiritually, and feeling and, and enrich us in our life.

But if it’s an unknown, it, it, w- in somewhere within us, it’s, it’s scary. So that is another thing. So a simple way to over- start overcoming those things is to start breaking those patterns and cr- becoming hyper-aware in your day and creating the changes, lean into the discomforts. Start letting go of the familiarity of things, um, that are reoccurring every day habitually in our lives. So number four, uh, you can’t do- undo a lifetime of, of conditioning in one healing session. I find this fascinating, uh, as well, is because- we come into, uh, let’s say you, you book in a energy healing session with me, and you, you, you come in and you’re exploring this work. Th- ultimately, there’s a consistency that, that is required to support that.

We, we get to a point where the pain is so great, we, we, we become desperate. We want to start to make change in our lives, and ultimately then, hopefully, it’s just gonna go away. It’s just gonna be removed. And we’re talking about so many things that are, are beyond the conscious mind that could be happening from an energetic perspective. The, the trauma, the ancestral traumas, even past lives, however you wanna look at it, there’s so many things beyond the conscious mind that are starting to orchestrate and move, uh, within the body and begin to clear. B- and that might even show up two, three, four, five, six months from now downstream of what’s actually, uh, shifting and changing now.

Like if you truly believe that your inner world is re- and your outer world are correlated, and the inner, the reflection is, is great, quite often the, the, the subtleties and the shifts that start to occur start to move in your life. It’s like y- you just don’t expect a flower to bloom in, in one watering, one plant, like one session in the garden. It takes loving, nurturing, c- and it becomes a product of the environment that you put it in. So if you put it in an environment of love, care, watering, sunshine, you know, s- enriching the soil, enriching the minerals and everything else, then that flower’s gonna naturally bloom when it’s ready. And that’s what we gotta allow for ourselves in this, is knowing that we are receiving and having w- exactly what we need in this exact moment at the right time, all here and now, and surrendering it over to the divine.

And the reason being as well is, I feel, is that foundationally, as human beings, our nervous system wouldn’t cope with the, the changes that are required. It’s like if you took somebody uh, from 300 years ago that never experienced electricity, never experienced Wi-Fi, never experienced the, the pace of life that was going on, and you drop them in– to take them from that, and you drop them in this environment, in this condition now, I would be interested to see how they respond to the way our bodies and our nervous systems have been conditioned to the lives that we are living currently in this planet right here, right now, with everything that’s going on, the radio waves, the sound waves, the noise, the cars, the traffic.

Right? So there’s clearly an adaptation process, and I believe that that adaptation process is that our higher selves, our souls, is allowing us… You want it to be a gradual shift. Okay? Nothing– You don’t you don’t have to have these big catharsisms and screams and, and rainbows and unicorns and lights and comparing yourself to other people. Oh my God, they’re having so much shifts and profound stuff that’s going on. That’s all nonsense. It’s not like… It, it’s a bit I hope I’m making sense here. I’m going slightly off. Uh, and you know, the other thing I realize as I’m, I’m doing this is like, am I actually speaking about like point seven or point eight?

Because I wrote the points down earlier, and now I’m flip-flopping over the place, but you get the point, right? Okay, number w- the next one, number five, feeling worse doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going backwards. So I had a session with, um, uh, I might have mentioned it before, uh, Brad, and he had foot pain, and he woke up next day feeling like crap, and it was all this f- he had all these flu-like symptoms and starts going in. It’s very common. It was only on the coaching call last night, and somebody was talking about the, the, the chest infection that they just caught. But then it’s like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, easy tiger, because you’ve just had this big emotional catharsis and this release through the doing this energy work, and now the body is actually letting it go.

But it’s like we’re wanting a 5D spiritual experience, but we keep pu- imposing a 3D well-conditioned mind onto what’s happening in that moment. And so we got to start letting it go, because this stuff can start to bring stuff up when the body’s naturally ready and letting it go. So when we start to feel like shit, when it starts to happen, and that’s when we start to lean into more gratitude, more softening in those moments of being, “Wow, I am so grateful for this.” And this is why it’s critical that you have people around you that see this all the time and, uh, go through this to, to pull you back out of what’s happening. And it’s not about diagnosing, it’s not about Um, every– letting go of any other treatments or anything, but what I’m saying is, is that when you start, uh, uh, releasing energetically on a s- on a deep spiritual soul, emotional, mental levels, the, the toxins will come out.

It’s like you’re sweeping it out the system, and what’s coming is going, and you have to navigate through that. And over time, your body is gonna continue to adapt and hold– and have a much deeper foundation to hold a greater resonance. Okay? Uh, so yeah. Taking ownership of your life doesn’t mean you have to have everything figured out on your own. When the same patterns keep coming back, sometimes the next step is letting yourself actually receive support. I’ve spent years facilitating retreats and working with thousands of people. Over that time, my capacity to hold and channel what you could call divine healing energy has continued to deepen.

That’s the work I share in an intimate online group called The Healing Immersion, and along that, I also have limited spaces to work together one-on-one privately as well. So if you’re ready to take this beyond the podcast and into your life, come work with me. For more information, simply head back to guylawrence.com.au and click in the menu bar Work With Guy. So number six, you don’t have to understand everything to change it. Oh my God, the amount of overanalyzing, uh, the caught up in the stories and the meaning and the reasons. Just let it all go. Let it all go. It’s okay. It’s another form of control, and there’s another place of safety that we’re getting from the overanalyzing. Yes, we wanna… I, I understand. I come from a fitness background. I– we want to measure progress, right? It’s normal if we can measure body fat and, you know, muscle mass and visceral fat and all the, the different circumferences around the body parts and all this stuff, right? And I get that, but we get so attached to the outcomes. We’re missing the joy of the journey of the being.

For me, even in the fitness and health industry, it was about just enjoying the process of being fit, strong and healthy and not being so attached to all the things that are coming from it. Let’s just be in the here and now ’cause it just take the, take the pressure off yourself, okay? And know that the more you connect to your heart, the more you start to get from your head to your heart and in your body, the deeper knowing and wisdom is gonna come from that. And then you won’t be needing anything outside of yourself to know that those shifts are coming and the, the changes that are occurring that are happening for our greatest good. Okay? So that’s a big one. Number seven, what you came to have healed. Oh, but yeah, so what you so let’s say you came for a session, right?

And, uh, you’ve got this problem, but nine times out of ten, what’s actually been worked on has got nothing to do with the symptom that is being presented itself. And, uh, that’s one thing, and I can’t tell you how many people s-said, “Oh my God, I thought I’d dealt with that,” you know? And then it’s coming up again, right? So for instance, uh, a-another gentleman I worked on, he had calf pain. And calf pain had been plaguing him actually for months. And, uh, we did a session together and, um, no more calf pain. Amazing. I was like, “Fantastic, we got a result here.” But what he was starting to look at, and if you look at it from a spiritual perspective, the calf was actually directly related to the heart.

And it was actually related to about him moving forward in life and following his heart more. Now, the calf is a, is a obviously a grounding, much foundational part of the body, and ultimately what we felt come out of it was actually not being able to take a leap of faith to follow his heart. And then the, the So the calf was then providing the symptoms for him to sh- to start to bring an awareness to deeper aspects of his heart and soul as wanting to present itself in the here and now. Does that make sense? So that was a, a really great example of having one thing, but it actually led to something much deeper of what’s occurring and going on.

Okay? And hopefully- Then as you continue and you keep rinse and repeating, this, the, the, the spiritual muscle continues to grow. Like, like you’re not gonna go to the gym, right, and do a set of pushups and all of a sudden have, you know, a bulging chest and super strong. It’s, it’s how you condition things over time th- for the adaptation to occur. Okay, number eight, love and gratitude. Love and gratitude change how you meet what’s happening in any given moment. One of the biggest challenges I’ve certainly had, especially when I’ve been dealing with pains in my body, you might have heard me talk about my back pain before and stuff like that, is meeting it with love and gratitude, and being okay with it, and truly surrendering into the moment whilst going on, exploring this work, leaning into the different processes, leaning into the, the energy work and whatever it might be that’s, you’re doing.

‘Cause the, the more we, we come from love and gratitude, it– when life is going rosy dosy our way, it’s a lot easier to be loving and grateful than when it’s working against us. And for me, when it’s working against us and we can actually really have to center ourselves and, and come into the present moment and find that space of love and gratitude and connection beyond all of that, that is where we start to truly understand the mastery and the resonance of love and gratitude. It’s in those moments, and as challenging as they are, they can be met, and they can be found. And I’d encourage you to look at those things on a daily basis, especially when you’re back in your mind, back in the story, and back in the self-sabotage. So bringing the same love, acceptance, and gratitude to the parts of ourselves and our lives we’re struggling with instead of constantly fighting them, right?

It’s in the fight it gets tiring. And then we just have to go, “Ah. Gonna let it go. Gotta let it go.” Okay. Number nine. Where have I got here? Stop looking for proof that your healing is working. Yeah. That leads into earlier, not every shift comes in extraordinary experience. Uh, sometimes you recognize the change weeks later when something that once triggered you no longer has the same hold over you. That’s so true. If you’re constantly looking, if you’re constantly analyzing, you’re constantly taking yourself out of the present moment, and you, you, you’re not, you’re not in the e-energy of certainty. You’re really th- bringing it back into this, this space of uncertainty, which of course stems from fear, and it stems from a place of, uh, non-acceptance and not, and not allowing.

When you, when you strip it back and I look up, look at my life so far The, it’s the constant showing up for myself and the detachment from outcome has allowed my life to blossom in ways that, uh, I, I, I couldn’t imagine. And as I bring the presence and the stillness and the sacredness of the, the moments in, that’s when we get to slow down time. That’s when we get to be here now, and that’s when we almost, like, step out of, of the world that we know to just be. And I f- and I truly feel that’s what, that’s what, what matters at the end of the day. And number 10, what you do between healing sessions matters just as much or actually more than the session itself and doing them. So quite often we get onto the sessions and, you know, we- we- we have all these expectations. We’re, we’re setting ourselves up in a certain way of how you think it should go.

And yet then we go back to the old ways back in our lives, and I really believe the way you think, the way you make choices, the aftercare you do… I’ll give you an example. So I ran a, group healing session with six people over a three-week period. I put like this, this healthcare support pack out for them and all these recommended things to do. And after the first session, I asked, uh, “How many of you have, you know, bought the things that were required or did this and that?” And none of them had. And I think by week three, some of them had done some of it, right? And that’s no judgment. That’s fine. It’s like wha- whatever. But that just to me shows the human condition on times that we’re such creatures of habit, and anything beyond the familiarity of what we know, we start to get wobble around and, and as opposed to just diving in and, and going with it and using, leveraging somebody else’s experience who’s further down the path than you.

We still do what we do, which is we’re just fascinating things, aren’t we? Aren’t we? But anyway, I would recommend, uh, listening to this a few times, especially if you’re on the journey and you’re having sessions or if you’re having sessions with me or, or whatever it be. I want this to be a support tool as well and a, and a gentle reminder to, as we- lose ourselves or wobble along the way, that it can help us bring us back to what really matters. Okay? Uh, yeah. Anyway, hope you got something out of that. I, uh, I’m not sure when this podcast goes out. I would have… I did put a free healing on, so, um, I’ll probably offer the recording if it’s after the date. So there’ll be a link below if you wanna jump on that and, and, uh, check it out or come and check out some sessions with me in the future. Links are below. Much love, and I will see you soon.
